A Baby Shower. It's All About Games and Gifts!

A baby shower may seem something of an American concept, but it is fast coming over to the UK, with more and more expectant mothers choosing to have one. They can be great fun as well, with all sorts of games. But they also include that ever troublesome prospect of just what sort of gift you should bring to such an event.

There are two important things to remember about any baby shower

1. It is meant to be a fun occasion, bringing together friends and family in a light hearted atmosphere

2. Gifts are meant to be practical.

Now let us assume that you are not organising the baby shower, so the games are something that someone else has to worry about. That being the case your main issue is about what sort of gift to bring.

Practical Gifts Tradition is for such gifts to be practical. Something that the parents (especially the mother) can use in the first few weeks/months after giving birth.

These are likely to be the time that mothers need the most help. Finding time to get out and buy essential supplies like getting enough nappies, enough clothes that fit, etc, can be a real hassle as they juggle being new parents and having to run a household (and potentially work as well).

Which is why practicality is the name of the game. The good news is that there are plenty of such items that you can look to give as a gift at a baby shower.

Here's a few ideas that you might like to think about

* Nappy cakes. An odd way of presenting nappies we agree, but they can look lovely whilst giving the parents those all important extra nappies.

* Clothing. Children grow, fast. And they manage to get a lot of clothes dirty. Which means the more clothing they have, planned months in advance, the better.

* Toys. Children love things that will entertain them, and parents love things that will entertain children. So find a good toy and you're on to a winner (ideally ensure it will last).

* Something for mum. It can be easy to forget mum in all this, but she has gone through hell to get there. So look to get her things such as bath salts, feet massagers and the like. Anything that will help her relax.

There are plenty more ideas...but that should be enough to be getting on with!
